Home Essentials: An Organized Kitchen

It has already been three weeks since we received our belongings and I finally put up the pot rack. This simple act may not seem like a big deal, but it has made me feel the most "moved in" of anything I have done so far with the apartment. We may not have a couch to sit on, or even a decent table to eat at, but knowing I can grab any pot or pan without rummaging through a box is a huge relief.

Lobo Enjoys Summer

I am lucky enough to live blocks away from two great parks, Edgerton Park and East Rock park. It has been very hot out so Lobo likes to get in water whenever he can, even if it's just the fountain.

Entry Way Organizing

Today I installed my Skinny Cabinet and Skinny Table. I made this cabinet and table for the tiny entry of my San Francisco apartment and it fits perfectly here as well. It's almost as if it were made for the space. This apartment doesn't have much of an entryway; the front door opens right into the living room/ kitchen and the back door is at the end of a narrow hallway with no room for furniture, even the skinniest of tables. Luckily there is a perfect nook where the hallway transitions into the kitchen. It's not right next to the door, but it will do.

Everything has its place in this table and cabinet pair. Everyday keys go on the table
in the "key spot." Poop bags go in the easy to access drop down cabinet and
less used keys and little things go behind the sliding door

An Introduction

I have recently moved from San Francisco, CA to New Haven CT. This blog will be about setting up and decorating a new apartment, my beloved golden retriever Lobo, and other stuff that I like, mostly related to design, dogs and the outdoors.

Anyhow, to set the scene, here are some pictures of our apartment before the movers came with all of our stuff...
